They pick them really well too. Snoop goes without saying. Jamie Principle was foundational to Chicago House music in the 80's. Dan The Automator made some of the most forward underground hip-hop of the 90's and Del tha Funky Homosapien was the star of my fav. of those projects (Deltron 3030).

I've always felt that the point of Gorillaz is to be experimental. Every album should be unique, and every track on any given album should be unique in itself. You may not like everything they release, but that's exactly the point.

I think you have a point but I also think it could relate to how everyone wants to be so famous and a star in Hollywood “Hollywood, she’s so seductive” but in reality it’s just “alright” and that there’s no reason to be jealous of the celebs cause “jealousy is a vibe down”. Relation to your quote “sinking in the web; there’s more to love than that” the first part could relate to like you said people stalking celebrities online, plus maybe spending hours looking and watching and reading about American dream and being famous. The second part could relate to how well there more to love than that cause life isn’t only about being famous and there so much more to have in life, not just money and fame. Idk that’s at least how I interpret the song.
I like your hot take on the subject! Originally I thought it might be referring to how people get lost on the internet and forget how to love and form relationships in real life. But I think your read is more in line with the rest of the song.

I'm not gonna lie I miss the old Gorillaz sound, Demon Days and their self titled were my go to albums, I remember my music producer friend would mess around with eq on the car stereo and turn all the high and mids down and just boost the bass, used to amaze me how much doing something so simple could change the sound, I wanna throw him some love as we've been through a lot together, he's heavily influenced by Gorillaz, try searching Lonely Gimmick - BEAT 1 ,you may be in for a surprise and he would love to hear your opinion, I think he's really good and deserves more recognition

@thebeatles1 It is true. Since I can't explain how it's done, I am going to copy paste Kire Jam's comment from the Clint Eastwood music video. "I love how the 2:57 "its all in your head" is mixed. It uses a mixing trick that makes the audio sound super wide in stereo but cancel out in mono as a side effect. This means that when u listen to it in a stereo sound system (or your headphones) it sounds super wide but when u listen to it on a mono sound system with only one speaker (like a Bluetooth speaker or your phone speaker if it's mono) you can't hear it and its just almost silence. This usually is bad because you lose audio compatibility but they left it like that because it reinforces the message that "its all in your head" cause depending on where u hear the song sometimes you'll hear the phrase and sometimes you won't."
Yeah its weird, i have to listen to it like 20 times each time focusing on one instument/sound (e.g i really like the bass in the background)

The songs about Hollywood and how messed up it can get with Snoops rap being a summation of his career since he broke out onto the Hollywood scene. It's a quintessential Hollywood story-from nothing to stardom to the price of that success being stardom and the system trying to tear him down (whether through his own actions or the actions of others). Whether in the end Hollywood and celebrities like Snoop are a good or bad thing depends upon the listeners interpretation. IMO what can't be argued is that Gorillaz are in a way acknowledging they're as much a part of the system as they are a pawn in its game.
I think the unknown lyric in the Snoop verse might be "Bareback."
